Guidance

The Guide to the Parks Canada Process under the Impact Assessment Act  provides an overview of the process developed by Parks Canada for project-level assessments.

It has been developed for:

  • project proponents
  • consultants
  • stakeholders
  • partners involved with the preparation or review of an IA

The process fulfills Parks Canada’s duties as a manager of federal lands, which are described in the Impact Assessment Act, 2019. It also meets Parks Canada’s legal and mandated obligations to protect Canada’s natural and cultural heritage.

The guide outlines:
  • how the process works
  • when an assessment is required
  • pathways of assessment
  • the decision-making process
  • consultation considerations
  • requirements for projects proposed within Parks Canada protected heritage places
